P7 – Creating a Personal Development Plan

Activity:

Based on the Task 1 scenario (Previous page) you must now create your own PDP that will be later uploaded to a blog and followed for the remainder of the year.

A - PDP

1.       Establish Purpose/Direction

Based on the ‘useful information’ section on the previous page describe what your main strengths are and what areas you think need to be developed for each discipline. Remember that you must justify each of your strengths against your past experiences and training.

Computer Systems (Unit 2)
Strengths	Possible Areas to Develop
I know how to operate any computer system.   I know how to install the right software and also know what all the different types of hardware’s do and what the differences are.	Know how to put all of the components together on a computer.   How to tell the differences between all the types of processors.   The best security software

 

Website Production (Unit 28)
Strengths	Possible Areas to Develop
The layout of my site.   Making sure the buttons work and are in the right page.   The right colour scheme.   Plenty of pages for the audience to look at.	Making my website more interactive with people using the site.   Checking to make sure everything works correctly.

 

2.       Identify Your Development Needs

Outline which of the highlighted development areas will be your priority (e.g. which are you main weaknesses) and justify why you have chosen them (e.g. knowledge of building a computer – never had the opportunity to build a standalone computer).

Priority 1	Put all the components together- never known 100% what everything does.
Priority 2	Knowing the processors-which processor would be best for this computer.
Priority 3	Security software-which one would the recommended security software program.
Priority 4	How to put more interactive features in-need more ideas for interactive features.
Priority 5	Checking everything works correctly-how to check all the links in the hyperlinks.

3.       Development Opportunities

Explain how you hope to improve the skills that you have highlighted. What resources/opportunities will be at your disposal (e.g. lesson time, online tutorials)

To improve my skills I could improve them by learning in lesson time. This is a great opportunity because my teacher is a high qualified IT teacher who knows mostly anything about computers and all the things I need to know, to improve my skills.   I can improve my skills by using online resources. This is because the internet is full of different types of information what could be useful to me to improve my IT skills.   Also I could improve my skills by online tutorials. This is because they show you step by step on how to do certain skills and how to do thing correctly.

 

4.       Formulate Action Plan – Set Targets

Create a set of SMART targets based on your identified needs from the previous section.

Target 1	Within the next year or so I will work hard to understand the main components about computer hardware.
Target 2	Next thing would be how to put together and assemble a computer together and in the process I would learn all the different settings so I know where the cables go. So I will make sure I will use my teachers knowledge to complete my tasks.
Target 3	Thirdly I would need to understand hardware because there are so many different types out there. I need to communicate with my teacher so we both know what thing need to be sorted.
